History

King’s Outdoor World was first established back in 1995 with a graphic design foundation and the launch of the award winning King’s Calendars. These wildlife calendars and soon to follow prints carved a niche in the outdoor and hunting industry. The company solidified the brand in the market by building customers and loyalty through cataloging and direct mail. Originally established on the Internet as early as 1997, King’s moved forward with the expertise in design with the launch of Hunting Illustrated Magazine in 2001, a big game publication focused on western big game hunting. This paved the way for another great marketing channel in addition to the catalog for the launch of King’s Shadow Camo. In 2000 there was a great buzz about new camouflage patterns coming into the industry and the improvement in technology for camouflage patterns. King’s set the stage to release their revolutionary King’s Desert Shadow Camo Pattern in 2002. Built upon the notion of lighter terrain and coloration and depth yet to be seen in the industry, Desert Shadow instantly grabbed the attention of hunters and the need for a lighter terrain pattern. Using the built in media and marketing channels, King’s Outdoor World starting building their brand and manufacturing their own apparel line to welcome customers. This opened the door to interested retailers and distributors which led to the eventual launch of the King’s Camo dealer program.

Gaining Momentum

Due to the success of cataloging, King’s was able to push customers looking specifically for the King’s Camo brand. Following the success of King’s Desert Shadow, in 2004 both Mountain Shadow and Snow Shadow camo patterns were launched. Once again, these patterns were created from brush, coloration, depth and detail that was not found in the industry and expanding the terrain specific camouflage power of King’s. During this time there was a surge of camouflage patterns and competition throughout the industry. However, with the direct channel of cataloging and web site, in addition to dealer and wholesale distribution on store shelves, King’s was able to withstand the storm and continue a strong hold throughout the West and Midwest. In 2008 two additional camouflage patterns were release – Woodland Shadow and Field Shadow. Now with a combined five different patterns representing any terrain found in the world, King’s was able to cover any hunter in any area with effective concealment. Furthermore, King’s opened up their pattern licensing division and offered their camo patterns to select licensee companies – both with hard goods and soft goods programs.
